What’s New in Aerospace? NASA Astronaut Presentation-Kate Rubins.
This episode of the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum’s “What's
New in Aerospace?” series features NASA Astronaut Kate Rubins -- sharing
her experiences from her recent mission aboard the International Space
Station. In 2016, as a member of the station’s Expedition 48/49 crew,
Rubins became the first person to sequence DNA in space. She eventually
sequenced over 2 billion base pairs of DNA during a series of
experiments to analyze sequencing in microgravity. Rubins spent 115 days
in space and logged 12 hours and 46 minutes of spacewalk time.
